Even though this scene is often called the “healing” of the paralytic, the story says nothing about healing action having occurred. Any healing is secondary to the demonstration that Jesus had the authority to forgive sins against God. Jesus said to the paralytic, “your sins are forgiven,” and then as an afterthought told him to get up, take his pallet, and go home.
