The point of the story here, however, is not about how impressive Jesus was, but instead was about the great numbers of rebellious people in Capernaum. These were people who started to think that their lives would be better without Roman rule. People who imagined that Caesar doesn’t always make the best decisions. People who tried to ambush unwary soldiers. This was a confrontation by the entire town. All of them convinced through the sweet words or stark authority of Jesus to set aside their rebellious ways.
