We’ve already encountered ‘unclean spirits’, and now we have the ‘demon-possessed’. It’s safe to assume that these unfortunates have foolishly chosen against Rome, as though a demon had possessed them to act against their family and their city. Given the proximity, it seems that the ‘ill’ folks being ‘healed’ are also infected with some kind of anti-Roman sentiment that Jesus corrects.
