The Greek phrase being translated here as “come out” or “came out”, ἔξελθε ἐξ, can also mean “go out”, or as an imperative: “get out”. The words of Jesus here can be summarized as “shut up and get out”, with the genitive pronoun being used emphatically, as in “get your self out”. Read in this manner, it is possible to move through this verse without transcendental activities. There was a fellow who disagreed with Jesus, and Jesus replied, “Shut up, and get out.”
