29⌄ but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; they are guilty of an eternal sin.”

Mark 3:29

Here we have the stinger of the tale. Most errors can be forgiven, we are told, except for blasphemies against the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the Holy Spirit of Rome, and rejecting the civilizing power of Rome is a sin against the Holy Spirit of Rome. By insinuating that Jesus conspired with the rebellion, they implied he was opposed to Rome. He puts this consequence on them: they are guilty of eternal sin for having lied about the patriotism of Jesus.

This connection between disrespecting the Holy Spirit of Rome being a great sin, and that this great sin was the reason that the Judeans were punished, is being made here, as well. The Pharisees have given this Jesus nothing but trouble, and he is encouraged that they will receive nothing but trouble in return. That the Judeans repeated rejected Roman polity was a thorn that jabbed at Rome and they were eager to remove it.
