The last verse of Mark, v28, drives home the point of the entire story. “The Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.” As the anointed Son of God, Jesus had authority that superseded that of Pharisees, the High Priests, and even the Temple itself. This is the same authority that the Roman Emperor would claim for himself.
